British Academy Visiting Fellowship

I am very excited to have been awarded a British Academy Visiting Fellowship to work on the National Museums Scotland collection of Chinese textiles and dress this summer. This was a collaborative application written together with Friederike Voigt, Head of the Asia Section, with the aim of surveying the thousand-odd items of clothing and textiles, research selected objects in depth, and identify collection strengths and potential historical narratives. Highlights include a group of hand-printed cotton fabrics together with the carved wooden blocks, and a theatrical dragon robe made from scarlet British wool!
